Reegan Greenwood recorded her first-career singles win in dual play as the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team fell to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 1-6 on Thursday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Greenwood's win at the No. 6 position was one of three long singles match for the Broncs (0-5). Greenwood's was the first of those matches to finish, as she dispatched
Ashley Garza 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
It's Greenwood's fourth singles win of the year, including three from fall tournament play.
Wanda Beguelin played strong at No. 3, coming back from a 3-6 first set loss to win the second set 6-4.
Stefania Nicolae, however, pulled out the super tiebreaker 10-4.
Lucie Chrastecka won her first set at No. 5 6-4, but
Leanne Mascall came back to win the second set 6-2 and the third set 6-1.
The Islanders (4-0) took the other three singles matches in straight sets. They also swept through doubles. The Broncs' closest match there came at No. 2, where
Dana Nazarova and
Didi Fatchikova fell 6-8 to
Sandra Burges and
Chelsea Horan.
The Broncs host the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in their home opener at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Admission is free.
