Day One Recap
PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's golf team fired a program record round of 296 to stay within striking distance of their sixth title during the second round of competition at the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship on Saturday at the PGA Golf Club's Ryder Course.
The previous record was 299, accomplished twice, most recently during round three of the 2005 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship.
Additionally, junior Sharyland alum 
Samantha Parrao pulled one stroke closer to the lead, now with a 151 (74, 77), putting her in a tie for second with South Carolina State's 
Cheryl Guerra (71, 80). Texas Wesleyan's 
Alexis Belton now has the lead with a 149 (77, 72).
 
The Broncs now have a total team score of 605 (309, 296), good for second place, 13 strokes back of defending champion Bethune-Cookman, which is at 592 (299, 293).
 
Senior captain 
Sarah Kothny leads the Broncs with a 149 (75, 74). Sophomore 
Marisa Canales shaved seven strokes off her first round score and ranks second on the Broncs with a 151 (79, 72). Sophomore 
Blake Peterson is third with a 152 (77, 75). Junior 
Elena Arroyo is fourth with a 153 (78, 75). Sophomore Edcouch-Elsa alum 
Ashley Garcia is fifth with a 169 (84, 85).
 
The Broncs tee off for the final round of the team competition in 10-minute intervals on Sunday starting at 8 a.m. Parrao tees off at 7 a.m.
