GREELEY, Colorado – In the conclusion of Saturday's suspended game between the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team and the University of Northern Colorado Bears,
Dylan Badura finished his first-career complete game, but the Broncs fell 5-2 on Sunday at Jackson Field.
The Broncs (24-25, 14-8 Great West Conference) trailed the Bears (24-22, 15-7 GWC) 1-0 with one out in the bottom of the second when heavy rain and hail created unplayable field conditions, forcing the suspension of play.
Badura (3-6) remained in after the resumption of play and pitched a career-high eight innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out four.
Chris Hammer (4-4) also continued pitching for the Bears, going seven innings and allowing a pair of unearned runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
Ben Packard pitched two scoreless innings for his first save.
The Bears got on the board on
Jensen Park home run with one out in the first.
In the fourth, Badura plunked
Colby Harrison to start the inning.
Andrew Coffman followed with a sacrifice bunt, but Badura threw the ball away, putting runners at first and second.
Ben Netzel then laid down a bunt and reached with a single to load the bases.
Derick Baum and
Brooks Schneider hit into back-to-back RBI-fielder's choices to make it 3-0.
The Broncs got one back in the fifth when
Dillon Engelhart reached on an error, moved to second on a
Riley Goulding infield-single, to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a
Chris Torres RBI-groundout.
Goulding finished 3-for-4.
With two outs in the bottom of the inning, however, Park singled and moved to second on a wild pickoff attempt.
Nick Miller then reached on an error and Harrison walked to load the bases. Coffman followed with a two-run single to make it 5-1.
The Broncs got their final run in the sixth.
Shane Ammon reached on a one-out bunt single, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a two-out single by
Will Klausing, who went 2-for-4.
The Broncs and Bears play the regularly scheduled game at approximately 3:25 p.m.
