Northern Colorado Walks Off Against UTPA Baseball

GREELEY, ColoradoColby Harrison hit a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the University of Northern Colorado Bears completed the four-game sweep of the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team 6-5 on Sunday at Jackson Field.
 
Down 5-2 after four innings, the Broncs (24-26, 14-9 Great West Conference) rallied back to tie the game.
 
Shane Klemcke led off the fifth with a double and Andy Fortuna reached on a one-out infield-single. Derek Hagy followed with an RBI-single and PSJA alum Bryan Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-4.
 
In the seventh, Fortuna reached second base with two outs, setting up an RBI-single by Ramirez to tie the game.
 
That's where the score stayed until the bottom of the ninth, which Ryan Yamane led off with a single against La Joya alum Guadalupe Barrera (2-2). Jensen Park sacrificed Yamane to second, and then after Nick Miller flied out, Harrison singled up the middle to end the game.
 
That made a winner of Robert Hawkins (1-1), who pitched a perfect top of the ninth.
 
The Bears (25-22, 16-7 GWC) jumped out to a quick lead, as with one out in the first, Park and Miller hit back-to-back doubles off Kyle Tokunaga to make it 1-0.
 
The Broncs responded against Miller in the top of the second. Riley Goulding led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI-single by Shane Ammon. After a groundout bumped Ammon up to third, Jacob Huckabay hit an RBI-single to make it 2-1 Broncs.
 
A single and two hit batsmen loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, and then a wild pitch moved everyone up to tie the game.
 
With one out in the fourth, Tokunaga issued three-straight walks. Matt Daniels came in and allowed a sacrifice fly by Landon Moseley and an RBI-single by Yamane. He then walked Park to load the bases before throwing a wild pitch to score a run and make it 5-2 Bears.
 
The Broncs play their final non-conference game of the season when they visit Texas A&M on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. The Broncs are looking for their second win in a row against the Aggies after upsetting them 5-2 in their last meeting, March 14, 2012, at Blue Bell Park.
