EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Thursday that all fans who bring new or used coats benefiting Tim's Coats to Saturday's women's basketball game and next Thursday's men's basketball game at the UTPA Fieldhouse will receive free admission to the games.

For more than 28 years, CHANNEL 5 NEWS and Chief Meteorologist Tim Smith, in conjunction with the Southwest Dry Cleaners Association, have collected more than 140,000 coats. The coats are distributed to the needy through Catholic Social Services and the Salvation Army.

The goal of Tim's Coats is to provide warmth for families in need during the winter.

The women's basketball team plays New Mexico State on Saturday at 7 p.m. The men's basketball team faces Utah Valley on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door before and during both games, as well as in advance, at the UTPA Fieldhouse box office.

UTPA students, faculty and staff, who already receive complimentary admission, will receive a free hot dog with their donation.
