RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Thursday the addition of
Daisy Belmares as an Administrative Assistant.
Belmares joins the department after nearly two years as a student assistant in UTRGV Athletics, where she supported daily business operations. In that role, worked as a temporary Office Assistant with the UTRGV Football Program from September 2025 to November 2025. She managed student employee records, helped process requisitions and invoices, and assisted with athletic competition contracts, tracking deadlines and compliance requirements. She also conducted physical inventory audits of university assets and helped prepare onboarding materials for newly hired staff and head coaches.
"I'm so excited to welcome Daisy Belmares back to UTRGV Athletics in her new role as Administrative Assistant," Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations
Klarissa Rodriguez said. "Daisy previously worked with me as a student assistant for about two years, and during that time, she consistently demonstrated an incredible work ethic, professionalism, and willingness to learn. She did an amazing job, so it is truly special to see her return and continue growing professionally with our department. Having already seen her dedication and capabilities firsthand, I'm confident that Daisy will thrive in this position and make a wonderful addition to our team. I'm so happy to have her back and look forward to seeing all that she accomplishes!" Rodriguez said.
Before joining the athletics staff full time, Belmares interned in the UTRGV Dean of Students Office, where she supported Title IX case preparation and delivered presentations on university policies and student resources to audiences of more than 300 people. She also created flyers, pamphlets and other educational materials to raise awareness of university policies.
Belmares previously worked as a nutrition assistant at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, where she coordinated communication among dietitians, medical departments and management while maintaining patient documentation in compliance with privacy and safety standards. She also completed a summer internship with IDEA Public Schools in Weslaco, where she redesigned student support workshops and developed facilitator guides and instructional materials.
A UTRGV graduate, Belmares earned a bachelor's degree in social work in May 2025.
"Coming back to UTRGV Athletics is an exciting opportunity for me," Belmares said. "I'm looking forward to being part of a team that supports our student-athletes and continues to make a positive impact throughout the Rio Grande Valley."
