Men's Basketball Shoots Well from Long Distance in Loss at New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team shot a season-high .533 (8-for-15) from behind the arc, but fell to the defending Western Athletic Conference champion New Mexico State University Aggies 90-78 on Saturday at the Pan American Center.
 
The Broncs (6-15, 2-4 WAC) held the Aggies (15-7, 4-2 WAC) to .375 (6-for-16) from behind the arc, but the Aggies shot .657 (23-for-35) from inside the arc while limiting the Broncs to .432 (19-for-44).
 
Junior Shaquille Boga led four Broncs in double-figures with 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc, plus 7-of-8 from the line, with six assists and three rebounds. Sophomore Shaquille Hines scored 16 points on 7-of-17 shooting with seven rebounds. Graduate student Javorn Farrell scored 14 points with five rebounds and two assists. Senior Jusitn Leathers scored 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting, including 2-of-3 from behind the arc, plus 2-of-2 from the line.
 
Daniel Mullings led four Aggies in double-figures scoring with 32 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 1-of-3 from behind the arc, plus 13-of-15 from the line, with six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Renaldo Dixon scored 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting, plus 3-of-3 from the line, with seven rebounds and two assists. Tshilidzi Nephawe scored 14 points with 14 rebounds and two blocks. DK Eldridge scored 14 points as well.
 
The Broncs got off to a strong start, as Farrell hit two threes and a layup to help the Broncs build a 17-5 lead after four minutes. Nephawe responded with a layup to spark a 12-2 run as the Aggies pulled to within two six minutes later.
 
The Aggies tied the game for the first time at 25-25 on a Nephawe layup with 7:56 remaining in the first half, but Leathers hit a three to put the Broncs back on top. Mullings followed with a layup and Eldridge hit a jumper to give the Aggies the lead back, and they did not relinquish it.
 
The Broncs kick-off a two-game home stand on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host first place Utah Valley. Doors open at 6.
