Box ScoreLAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 4-1 loss to the New Mexico State University Aggies on Friday at the Soccer Athletic Complex.
The Broncs (8-8-4, 2-7-1 WAC) will enter the WAC Tournament as the No. 6 seed and face one of Kansas City (7-1-1 WAC), Seattle U (7-1-1 WAC) and Utah Valley (7-2-0 WAC) in the quarterfinals on Thursday at either 6:30 or 9:30 p.m. The opponent could be determined as soon as Saturday and no later than Sunday as Seattle U is at Utah Valley on Saturday and Kanas City hosts Chicago State on Sunday.
The Broncs got off to a good start, going up 1-0 at the 2:26 mark when freshman
Zinnia Hannig scored her second goal of the season on a feed from freshman
Andreya Barrera, but just under five and a half minutes later,
Stephanie Petre scored her first of two goals off of free kicks to tie the match.
Gabby Campbell scored the game-winner from 30 yards out on a feed from
Michaela Haley at 17:50, 10 minutes before Petre's second goal made it 3-1.
The Aggies (4-16-0, 3-6-1) added a
Jennae Cambra goal less than three and a half minutes into the second half off a pass from
Victoria Archuleta to complete the scoring.
Freshman
Aubrie Coley (5-6-4) finished with five saves.
Taylor Rice (3-9-0) made five saves for the win.
The Broncs were outshot 14-10, including 9-6 on goal.
