Box ScoreHUNTSVILLE – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team closed out a five-game road trip with a 78-59 loss to the Sam Houston State University Bearkats on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum
Sophomore
Janari Joesaar led the Broncs (4-4) with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists. Junior
Everett Osborne scored a career-high 13 points. Freshman
Dan Kimasa posted his first-career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds (four offensive)
DeMarcus Gatlin led four Bearkats (5-2) in double-figures scoring with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Dakarai Henderson scored 14 points with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Michael Holyfield scored 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting, plus 4-of-4 from the line.
Kaheem Ransom scored 12 points with seven rebounds and five assists.
The Broncs led 4-1 out of the gate on a pair of Joesaar free throws and a layup by junior
Shaquille Hines. The Bearkats responded with a 9-2 run to take a 10-6 lead on a Henderson three, but the Broncs then went on an 11-3 run to go up 17-13 on a Kimasa layup.
The Broncs still led 25-21 after an Osborne three with 7:57 remaining in the first half, but the Bearkats scored the next seven points, taking the lead on a Ransom three.
Joesaar hit a layup to bring the Broncs back within one, but the Bearkats responded with a 14-4 run to push their lead into double-figures.
A Kimasa layup brought the Broncs within 54-45 with 11:05 to go, but the Bearkats scored 16 of the next 22 points to push the game out of reach.
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host Lamar at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Any fans bringing a new, unwrapped toy to benefit the Salvation Army will receive free admission. UTPA students, faculty and staff, who already receive free admission, will get a free t-shirt for their donations.
