EDINBURG – After entering the game with 997 career points, graduate student Javorn Farrell blew past the 1,000-points mark by scoring a career-high 30 points to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team to a 68-59 win over the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

It's the Broncs' (8-19, 4-8 Western Athletic Conference) second win in a row and gives them a season sweep of the Kangaroos (7-17, 4-7 WAC).

Farrell hit a career-high 13 baskets in 17 attempts, including 2-of-6 from behind the arc, plus 2-of-3 from the line, with six rebounds, four assists and two steals. He now has 1,027 career points, 431 of which have come with UTPA after scoring 596 at UMass Amherst from 2009-10 through 2011-12.

He reached the milestone with a three-pointer at the 15:11 mark of the first half. It was part of a hot start for Farrell, who scored 15 of the Broncs' first 22 points in a span of nine minutes as they rallied from down 7-0 to take a 26-17 lead.

Two other Broncs reached double-figures in scoring, as senior Josh Cleveland scored 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting, plus 3-of-4 from the line, with seven rebounds, and junior Shaquille Boga scored 11 points with four assists and two steals. Sophomore Shaquille Hines narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and seven rebounds.

The Broncs shot 53.1 percent for the game, their second-highest shooting percentage of the season. The only time the Broncs had a higher shooting percentage was when they shot 58 percent at Kansas City on Jan. 16.

Trinity Hall led the Kangaroos with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Fred Chatmon recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Martez Harrison also scored 10 points.

The Broncs led by as many as 13 at 42-29 on a Cleveland layup with 16:35 remaining.

The Kangaroos pulled within 46-42 on a Hall layup with 9:28 left, but the Broncs scored the next seven points, and then, after a Hall three, Farrell hit a three of his own.

The Kangaroos again pulled to within four at 63-59 with 36 seconds left, but Hines and Cleveland combined to hit four free throws to put the game away.

The Broncs conclude this four-game home stand on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host defending WAC Champion New Mexico State at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Doors open at 6.
