Women's Tennis Looks to Push Streak to Seven in a Row

THOBODAUX, La. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team tries to extend the longest win streak in program history to seven matches when they face the Nicholls State University Colonels on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
 
Hot Streak
The Broncs set the program's record for the longest win streak of six matches in a row with a win over Louisiana Lafayette on Sunday. During the current win streak the Broncs have beat Texas A&M Kingsville, Kansas City, Prairie View A&M, Grambling State, Alcorn State and Louisiana Lafayette.
 
Hot Start
The Broncs, at 11-4, are off to their best start through 15 games in program history. Their 11 wins are the most since the 2007-08 season, when they won 16. Only three other times have the Broncs won more than 11 matches or more in a season as they are now tied for the third most wins in a season in program history. The Broncs won 16 in 2007-08, 15 in 1989-90, and 11 in 1988-89.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs defeated the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 4-1 on Sunday.
 
The Broncs got it going in doubles as the team of Reegan Greenwood and Katia Stavroulaki defeated Melissa Burckhartt and Julie Cremers 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. The Ragin' Cajuns (4-8) answered with a win at No. 1 doubles but the team of Didi Fatchikova and Mariana Ranzahuer beat Alexandria Way and Juliette Clement 8-5 at No. 3 doubles clinching the point for the Broncs.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns answered with a win at No. 1 singles but Beguelin responded with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nicole Breaux at the No. 2 spot. Ranzahuer followed with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Way at No. 4 singles and Christel Amsallem beat Clement 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 to put the match away.
 
The rest of the singles matches went unfinished once the match was decided.

Scouting the Colonels
The Colonels are 5-4 on the season as they head into a match against Oral Roberts before facing the Broncs. The Colonels are coming off of a 5-2 loss to McNeese State on March 9.
 
Stephanie Barnett and Isla Brock lead the Colonels with five wins in singles competition. Marie Aubert and Klara Skopac have four wins each with Skopac riding a three-match win streak.
 
Barnett and Skopac have teamed up for a 5-2 record in doubles while mainly playing at the No. 2 spot.
 
The Colonels are 1-2 at home this season.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 3-5 against the Colonels all-time in a series that dates back to 1999. The last time these two teams faced each other was on Feb. 22, 2008 when the Colonels defeated the Broncs 4-3 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Broncs last defeated the Colonels on Feb. 24, 2007 when they won 4-3 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.  
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs currently have 10 student-athletes on the roster representing eight different countries including Bulgaria, Canada, England, France, Greece, Mexico, Slovakia and the United States.
 
Next Up
The Broncs wrap up their six-match road trip when they face Oral Roberts University on Thursday at 10 a.m.
