LORMAN, Miss. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team defeated the Alcorn State University Lady Braves 4-1 on Saturday for their fifth straight victory, tying the longest winning streak in program history.
 
The last time the Broncs won five straight matches was from March 14-26, 2008. With the win, the Broncs improve to 10-4, which is the fourth most wins in a season in program history.
 
The Broncs took control of the match as they swept through doubles. Wanda Beguelin and Christel Amsallem defeated Kersten Vanem and Sumeera Kamil 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Reegan Greenwood and Katia Stavroulaki beat Chansonique Rutherford and Aakanksha Punj 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and Didi Fatchikova and Mariana Ranzahuer defeated Merlin Tipp and Ekaterina Potapova 8-1 at the No. 3 spot.
 
In singles, Beguelin defeated Vanem in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Stavroulaki beat Patricia Normand 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Amsallem followed with a straight set victory as she beat Tipp 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. The Lady Braves picked up their lone point at No. 5 singles.
 
The rest of the singles matches went unfinished once the match was clinched.
 
The Broncs will play their fourth match of their six-match road trip on Sunday at 2 p.m. when they face the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns.
