Women's Tennis Looks to Keep Hot Streak Going Against Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team looks to tie the program's longest win streak of five straight wins as they face the Alcorn State University Lady Braves on Saturday at 10 a.m.
 
Hot Streak
The Broncs are trying to tie the program's longest win streak of five in a row that was set from March 14-26, 2008. The Broncs' current win streak of four is tied for the second longest in program history as the 2007-08 Broncs also won four straight matches from Feb. 1-8.
 
This is the second four-match win streak this season for the Broncs as they had their first streak from Feb. 16-23.
 
Hot Start
The Broncs, at 9-4, are off to their best start through 13 games in program history. Their nine wins are the most since the 2007-08 season, when they won 16. Only four other times have the Broncs won more than nine matches in a season as they won 16 in 2007-08, 15 in 1989-90, 11 in 1988-89 and 10 in 1992-93.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs got things started as they swept through doubles. Wanda Beguelin and Christel Amsallem defeated Aluwatomisin Kassim and Tabitha Nankya 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Reegan Greenwood and Katia Stavroulaki beat Joy Jones and Tafadzwa Chiridza 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and Didi Fatchikova and Mariana Ranzahuer beat Shaunte Southern and Lise Karenzi 8-0 at No. 3.
 
In singles, the Broncs swept through their matches as Fatchikova beat Kassim 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1. Stavroulaki defeated Jones 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles while Ranzahuer beat Chiridza 7-6, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
 
Greenwood went on to beat Southern 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and Heather Borsos defeated Karenzi 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot. The match at No. 6 singles went unfinished.
 
Scouting the Panthers
The Lady Braves are coming off of a 5-2 loss to Jackson State and a 6-1 loss to Southern University March 1 at the SWAC Tennis Round Up.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 3-0 all-time against the Lady Braves in a series that dates back to 2000. The last time these two teams faced each other was on Jan. 24, 2003 when the Broncs defeated the Lady Braves 5-2 in Beaumont.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs currently have 10 student-athletes on the roster representing eight different countries including Bulgaria, Canada, England, France, Greece, Mexico, Slovakia and the United States.
 
Next Up
The Broncs play the fourth match of their six-match road trip when they face University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Sunday at 2 p.m.
