Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season Against No. 2 Laredo Community College

LAREDO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team faces the Laredo Community College Palominos, the No. 2 ranked team among junior colleges, as they close out their regular season on Friday at 1 p.m.  at the H.E.B. Tennis Courts.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs fell 1-6, as they battled the No. 66 University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday at the Cajun Courts.
 
The Broncs (3-15) started off doubles with a win at No. 3 as Joseph Bishop and Mauricio Fosado defeated Carl Alberton and Will Huyton 8-3. After the Broncs dropped the match at No. 2 doubles, they fell 6-8 at the No. 1 spot as the Ragin' Cajuns (16-4) clinched the doubles point.
 
In singles, the Broncs got their lone point at the No. 1 spot as Juan Cruz Soria defeated Jake Wynan in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, The Ragin' Cajuns took the rest of the singles matches in straight sets to clinch the match.
 
Scouting the Palominos
The Palominos are coming off of a 6-3 loss to Trinity College and then face the University of the Incarnate Word on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Palominos have won the Division 1 Junior College Men's Tennis Championships seven times and are the NJCAA record-holder for winning the most consecutive National Men's Tennis Championships. They won from 2005-10 and then again in 2012.
 
The Series
The Broncs 25-5 all-time against the Palominos in a series that dates back to 1982. Both of these teams met last season as the Broncs beat the Palominos 4-3 in their home opener at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.  
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs have eight student-athletes representing six countries including, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, India, Mexico and the United States. Sanoja is from the Rio Grande Valley as he calls Mission home.
 
Next Up
The Broncs will host their UTPA Tennis Pro-Am on Saturday before heading to Las Cruces, New Mexico for the Western Athletic Conference Championships on April 25.
