EDINBURG – Senior Sam Street pitched his NCAA-leading ninth complete game to stayed tied for the top spot in the NCAA with an 11-0 record and lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the University of North Dakota 3-1 on Friday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
 
In his fifth-straight complete game, Street struck out eight while scattering six hits and three walks. He threw 87 of his 136 pitches (64 percent) for strikes. Street and Florida Gulf Coast's Mike Murray are the only two pitchers in the NCAA with records of 11-0.
 
Senior Evan Mason led the Broncs (20-27, 10-9 WAC) offense by going 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. With the Broncs down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Mason came up with runners on the corners and two outs and drove-in the game tying run with a single.
 
In the eighth, with the Broncs up 2-1, Mason reached on an infield-single and moved to second when the throw sailed past first base. Mason then stole third and scored as the throw went into left field.
 
The Broncs' other run came in the seventh, when, with runners on the corners and one out, redshirt freshman Edinburg alum Edgar Cordon laid down a suicide squeeze to make it 2-1.
 
That was all against North Dakota (9-21, 8-8 WAC) starter Andrew Thome (2-5), who pitched a complete game of his own, striking out six while allowing eight hits and three walks.
 
North Dakota got its run with two outs in the top of the fourth on an RBI-double by Sam Alt, who finished 2-for-3.
 
The Broncs and North Dakota play the middle game of this three-game series on Saturday at 6 p.m. Gates open at 5.
