Bugariu Blog Entry Four: Nature's Lawn Mowers

UTPA women's soccer head coach Glad Bugariu, also the head coach of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines women's national team, is blogging about his experiences during his time training the team this month.

I began last night's coaching session by chasing a few goats off the training field, nature's lawn mowers.

Once again we focused on staying compact while being coordinated in our defense. The bottom line is that organization is defending, so, as a coaching staff, it was agreed that this was a particular weakness of the team.

After the first hour we combined with the men's national team (who played two touches only) and had half an hour of combined training. Men's national team head coach Bernard Huggins contributed tremendously with some excellent coaching points throughout the session.

Although everyone already knew that the Windward Islands Tournament was moved to April 7-11, we got final confirmation today as the SVGFF began advertising the event. However, my work does not stop. We worked with the national team goalkeepers today and conducted another training session for the women's national team. We have another friendly game tomorrow against a U17 boys team, so we want to be as sharp as possible.

We finished off the night by attending another round of men's Premier League matches, coupled by some excellent lively football discussions amongst the national staff. The subject? Who is the greatest player to ever play? Answer? We are still discussing it!

Game day once again! We put together an excellent performance on a difficult pitch against a very enthusiastic, fast and physical boys team. We not only improved in so many areas compared to last week, but we were able to control parts of the game. I have been encouraging the federation to regularly play the Women's National Team in the Under 17 boys' league, as the preparation they will experience will benefit them tremendously down the road.

Sunday is not a day of rest here. It actually seems to be Friday. So we had an afternoon training session.
