Women's Tennis Faces No. 3 Kansas City in Semifinals of WAC Tournament on Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 2 seeded University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team faces the No. 3 University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos in the semifinals round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center.
 
The winner will move on to the championship match on Sunday.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs closed out its regular season with a 5-2 win over the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos.
 
The Broncs (9-11) grabbed the early lead after sweeping through doubles. The team of Katia Stavroulaki and Reegan Greenwood recorded an 8-5 win over Maddie Schulte and Dimitra Stavrianakou on court one. Mariana Ranzahuer and Lison Le Biavant defeated Amellie Amsallem and Allie Schulte 8-5 on court two and Christel Amsallem and Natacha Minc beat Marina Albert and Linda Ammar Mohoub 8-3 on court three.
 
In singles, the Broncs continued to control the match with four wins. Stavroulaki posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Stavrianakou on court one while Reegan Greenwood beat Marina Albert 7-5, 6-3 on court three.
 
Ranzahuer extended her win streak to six straight matches with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Raquel Argenal on court five and Natacha Minc posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Allie Schulte on court six.
 
The Kangaroos (8-11) got on the board with wins on courts two and four.
 
Scouting the Kangaroos
The Kangaroos are 10-11 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. UMKC started off 6-0 at home on the season before having their win streak snapped and currently post a 7-1 home record.
 
Raquel Argenal leads the Kangaroos with 15 wins on the season while posting an 11-7 record in dual match competition. Maddie Schulte and Mariam Kurasbediani have each posted 14 wins and also have recorded double-digit victories with Schulte winning 11 and Kurasbediani winning 10.
 
In doubles, Schulte has teamed with Dimitra Stavrianakou for 16 wins to lead the team while posting a 10-8 record in dual match play and a 2-3 conference record. They have played all their matches at the No. 1 spot.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 2-0 all-time against the Kangaroos after facing them for the first time last season. The Broncs defeated the Kangaroos 5-2 on March 2, 2014 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.  
Both teams faced each other on April 5 in Phoenix, Arizona and it was the Broncs who came away with the 5-2 victory.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs currently have nine student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries including Colombia, England, France, Greece, Mexico and the United States.
 
Next Up
The winner will play for the WAC Championship on Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center.
