SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team closed out their day with a 5-0 win over the Our Lady of the Lake Saints on Saturday at the OLLU Tennis Courts.
 
It was their second match of the day as the Vaqueros (4-5) played the Saints using NAIA rules, which meant that each doubles match counted as one point.
 
Junior Juan Cruz Soria and freshman Yehonatan Kaufman teamed up to defeat Fernando Pegas and Mathias Rocha 9-8 on court one. Sophomores Koby Jansen and Elliot Johnstone then gave the Vaqueros another point after they defeated Jacob Galaviz and Tanis Martinez 8-4 on court two.
 
Freshmen Harry Wells and Cosme Jubera completed the sweep of doubles as they beat Ross Marzetti and Pablo Cavazos 8-1 on court three.
 
Soria contributed in singles competition as well as he beat Marzetti 6-2, 6-2 on court one. Jansen clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Pegas on court three. The rest of the singles matches went unfinished once the match was clinched.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on February 26 when they host the St. Mary's University at 10 a.m. at the Brownsville Tennis Center.
