Men's Tennis to Host St. Mary's Friday in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team comes back to the Rio Grande Valley to host the St. Mary's University Rattlers on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Brownsville Tennis Center.  
 
Attendance is free and fans are welcomed to attend. The Brownsville Tennis Center is located at 3 Event Center in Brownsville, Texas.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros (4-5) are coming off of a 5-0 victory over Our Lady of the Lake Saints. NAIA rules were used in the match as doubles matches were counted as one point each.
 
The Vaqueros swept through doubles and then Juan Cruz Soria and Koby Jansen won their singles matches on courts one and three to clinch the match.
 
It was the second match of the day after playing Incarnate Word that afternoon.
 
Scouting the Rattlers
The Rattlers are 2-4 on the season and are coming off of a 0-6 loss at the hands of Tyler Junior College.
 
Their two wins this season came against East Central University and Collin County Community College.
 
Jose Antelo and Michael Maciel who have three singles victories each lead the Rattlers. Maciel has played all but one match at No. 1 singles while Antelo has mainly played at No. 6 singles.
 
In doubles, the Rattlers have a pair of teams with three victories. Adam Dockery and Brien Galon have teamed up to post a 3-1 record while playing all of their matches at No. 1. Felix Hollaway and Aldo Maldonado have also posted a 3-1 record while playing at No. 3
 
The All-Time Series
The Vaqueros are 15-1 all-time against St. Mary's in a series that dates back to 1955. The last time these two teams faced each other was on February 11, 2012 when the Vaqueros defeated the Rattlers 6-1 in San Antonio.
 
They did see each other in the fall as the Vaqueros participated in the St. Mary's Quad on September 18-19.
 
Globetrotters
The Vaqueros currently have eight student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Israel and Argentina.
 
Next Up
The Vaqueros return to the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Sunday to host St. Edwards University at 3 p.m.
