PHOENIX – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team recorded a 7-0 over the Chicago State Cougars on Saturday at Paseo Tennis Center.
 
"Chicago State came out with a lot of spirit today," Vaqueros head coach Stephanie Wooten-Quijada said. "We stayed focus with great team energy which allowed us to play good tennis on every line."
 
The Vaqueros (4-5) opened with a pair of wins in doubles play to clinch the first point of the match. Tara Donaho and Reegan Greenwood got things rolling in doubles as they defeated Marnie Perez-Ochoa and Monica Pulgar 6-3 on court two.
 
The team of Doris Aleksovska and Dominique Esparza recorded a 6-4 win over Lorea Gamboa and Leshia Gadacz on court one to clinch the point.
 
In singles, Greenwood gave UTRGV another point with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Hanna Pangestu on court one. Greenwood was down 0-2 in the first set and then she turned it around by winning 12 straight games to win the match.
 
With the win, Greenwood now has 47 career singles wins and is now tied for sixth place in program history with Silke Buksik (2005-08).
 
Esparza continued things rolling for the Vaqueros as she notched a 6-2, 7-5 win over Lorea Gamboa on court two. Dominique Ibarra added a 6-1, 6-3 win on court three over Marnie Perez-Ochoa.
 
Natacha Minc defeated Leshia Gadacz 6-4, 6-1 on court four while Aleksovska recorded a 6-1, 7-5 win over Pulgar on court five. Tara Donaho closed out singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Bryttish Burts 6-0, 6-2 on court five.
 
The Vaqueros will close out the weekend on Sunday when they face the Missouri-Kansas City at Paseo Tennis Center at 12 p.m.
