EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team closes out their home schedule on Thursday when they host the Laredo Community College Palominos at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
Last Time OutThe Vaqueros (9-12) defeated the Seattle U Redhawks 5-2 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
After dropping the doubles point, the Vaqueros answered with five singles wins to take the match.
Juan Cruz Soria picked up his 12
th win of the spring with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Ian Clare on court one.
Ethan Ammon beat Tanner Berkabile 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 on court two while
Koby Jansen beat John Stormans 6-1, 6-1 on court three.
Yehonatan Kaufman snapped his losing streak with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Michael Schoettler on court four and
Elliot Johnstone defeated Connor Leahy 6-2, 7-5 on court five.
Scouting the PalominosThe Palominos are 5-2 on the season and are coming off of a 7-2 win over Our Lady of the Lake on March 18.
They have picked up wins over St. Mary's, Incarnate Word, St. Edward's, Trinity and Our Lady of the Lake.
The All-Time SeriesThe Vaqueros are 26-6 all-time against the Palominos in a series that dates back to 1982.
These two teams met last year as the Vaqueros picked up the 7-0 win at home on April 2, 2015.
GlobetrottersThe Vaqueros currently have eight student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Israel and Argentina.
Next UpThe Vaqueros will next travel to Kansas City to face Chicago State on April 8 in the second WAC cluster.
