CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's tennis team closed out their regular season with a 1-6 loss to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders (21-0) got the match started with a sweep in doubles as they jumped out to the early 1-0 lead.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi then followed with five straight singles victories to clinch the match but the Vaqueros (9-10, 3-2 WAC) did get a point on court five. Freshman
Doris Aleksovska opened with a 7-6 win in the first set against Kerry Galhos but dropped the second set 0-6. In the tiebreaker, Aleksovska and Galhos went back and forth before Aleksovska came away with a 12-10 win.
The Vaqueros now prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, which they will be hosting from April 29-May 1 at the Brownsville Tennis Center.
