Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season on Saturday Against Missouri-Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team closes out its regular season on Saturday when they face the University of Missouri Kansas City Kangaroos at 11 a.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros (11-12, 2-2 WAC) opened their final weekend of the regular season with a 6-1 win over Chicago State.
 
The Vaqueros grabbed control early as they took the doubles point. After dropping the doubles match on court one, Elliot Johnstone and Andres Hernandez picked up the win on court two.
 
With the Cougars short a couple of players on the roster, the Vaqueros won the third doubles match by default.
 
In singles, the Vaqueros made sure the match were in their control as they won on every court except court two. Juan Cruz Soria won on court one as he defeated Felix Savard 6-1, 6-3.
 
Koby Jansen beat Christian Gonzalez 6-1, 6-3 on court three while Elliot Johnstone beat Rohan Wattley 6-1, 6-4 on court four. Yehonatan Kaufman won on court five with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Gonzalo Martinez and the Vaqueros then picked up a point with a default win on court six.
  
Scouting the Kangaroos
The Kangaroos are 11-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference play after falling to the Aggies 4-3 on Friday.
 
The Kangaroos have four in double figure wins with Airam Castellano leading the way with 13 wins playing all his matches at No. 1. Mike Psarros has 12 wins while mainly playing at the No. 5 spot.
 
Uldis Galsmins has recorded 11 wins while playing at the No. 2 and 3 spots and Amaury Navette has added 11 wins of his own at the No. 5 and 6 spots.
 
In doubles, Castellano and Psarros lead the way with a 13-4 record while playing all their matches at No. 1 and Galsmins and Navette have teamed for a 10-2 record while playing at No. 2.
 
The All-Time Series
The Vaqueros are 2-0 all-time against the Kangaroos in a series that started in 2014.
 
The Vaqueros defeated the 'Roos 4-3 last season at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
Globetrotters
The Vaqueros currently have eight student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Israel and Argentina.
 
Next Up
The Vaqueros will have some time off as they prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Brownsville starting on April 29 at the Brownsville Tennis Center.
