EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team opened the spring exhibition season with a 2-1 victory over Tecnológico de Monterrey on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
 
UTRGV got on the board with goals from junior Allyson Smith and freshman Sarah Bonney.
 
Tecnológico de Monterrey had a chance to take the lead when the score was 1-1, but freshman Kinga Szemik stopped a penalty kick to keep the score where it was.
 
UTRGV is back in action on March 4 when it competes at the Texas State 8v8 Tournament.
