EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team beat the University at Buffalo (UB) 4-2 on Monday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium to complete the four-game sweep and win its sixth-straight game.

It was UTRGV (16-7) head coach Manny Mantrana's 200th win at UTRGV and 651st overall.

UTRGV (16-7) scored all of its runs against Brent Cleland (0-2) in the fourth when, down 2-0 with runners at second and third and two out, sophomore Conrad McMahon hit a ground ball off the second base bag to tie the game. Senior Victor Garcia Jr. followed with a double off the center field wall to score McMahon before senior Jose Garcia came up with an RBI-single to cap the scoring.

Jose Garcia reached three times, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Victor Garcia Jr. finished 2-for-4. Senior Joseph Collazo drew a career-high three walks.

That made a winner of graduate student Connor Grant (3-3), who struck out 10 in seven innings.

Sophomore Brownsville Veterans alum Luis Acosta got the final out of the eighth before pitching a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.

UB (4-13) scored both of its runs in the second on two-out singles by Jeff Palczewski and Phillip Tomasulo.

UTRGV is back in action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. when it visits (RV) Texas in a game that will be televised on Longhorn Network.
