EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team beat the University at Buffalo (UB) 4-2 on Monday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium to complete the four-game sweep and win its sixth-straight game.
It was UTRGV (16-7) head coach
Manny Mantrana's 200
th win at UTRGV and 651
st overall.
UTRGV (16-7) scored all of its runs against
Brent Cleland (0-2) in the fourth when, down 2-0 with runners at second and third and two out, sophomore
Conrad McMahon hit a ground ball off the second base bag to tie the game. Senior
Victor Garcia Jr. followed with a double off the center field wall to score McMahon before senior
Jose Garcia came up with an RBI-single to cap the scoring.
Jose Garcia reached three times, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
Victor Garcia Jr. finished 2-for-4. Senior
Joseph Collazo drew a career-high three walks.
That made a winner of graduate student
Connor Grant (3-3), who struck out 10 in seven innings.
Sophomore Brownsville Veterans alum
Luis Acosta got the final out of the eighth before pitching a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.
UB (4-13) scored both of its runs in the second on two-out singles by
Jeff Palczewski and
Phillip Tomasulo.
UTRGV is back in action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. when it visits (RV) Texas in a game that will be televised on Longhorn Network.
