FORT WORTH – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team fell to No. 3 Texas Christian University (TCU) 10-2 on Tuesday at Lupton Field.
Senior
Jose Garcia and
Joseph Collazo led UTRGV (16-12) offensively, as each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Garcia also scored a run while Collazo added a stolen base.
Down 5-0 after three innings, UTRGV got on the board against Jake Eissler (3-0) in the fourth when Garcia hit a leadoff double and Collazo singled him in.
Then, in the fifth, sophomore
Conrad McMahon singled, stole second, moved to third on an error and scored on a Garcia single to make it 5-2.
TCU (18-5) scored all the runs it needed against junior Harlingen South alum
Zach Martinez (2-1) in the second on an RBI-single by
Elliott Barzilli and a three-run home run by
Ryan Merrill that made it 4-0.
TCU added a run in the third on an error.
TCU scored five more times in the eighth on a Merrill single, an
Austen Wade bases loaded walk, a
Cam Warner two-run double, and an
Evan Skoug sacrifice fly.
Merrill finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored while Barzilli went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.
Luken Baker also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
UTRGV and TCU wrap up this two-game set on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
