EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team is set to close out their home portion of their schedule when they host Laredo Community College, who is ranked sixth in the ITA Junior College rankings, on Friday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (3-18) picked up their first conference win of the season as they defeated Seattle U 5-2 on March 25.
The win snapped a 13-match losing streak.
UTRGV won on doubles courts one and three to take the doubles point grabbing the early 1-0 lead.
Yehonatan Kaufman and
Mateo Schmit won on court one while
Koby Jansen and Clément Sarradin won on court three.
In singles, UTRGV got wins from Jansen, Kaufman,
Elliot Johnstone and Sarradin to clinch the match.
Scouting Laredo Community College
Laredo Community College is 2-4 on the season after defeating Southeastern Oklahoma University on March 3.
They defeated Incarnate Word 4-2 on February 26 in San Antonio.
Juan Cruz Scoppetta and Matias Vargas leads LCC as each have posted four singles victories this season.
LCC is currently ranked sixth in the ITA Junior College Rankings.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 27-6 all-time against Laredo Community College in a series that dates back to 1982.
Both of these teams met last year and it was UTRGV who came away with the 4-3 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on March 31, 2016.
Next Up
UTRGV will head to Seattle for its second WAC cluster of the season as they face Chicago State on April 7 before facing Grand Canyon on April 8 and New Mexico State on April 9.
