CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team wraps up their regular season match with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (1-10) fell to same Houston State 2-5 on February 26 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Marine Darzyan and
Dominique Ibarra won on doubles court two to give UTRGV the lead but Sam Houston State won the final two doubles matches to clinch the point.
In singles,
Anastasia Belyaeva defeated Khee Yen Wee 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 on court three and Ibarra beat Carrie Casey 6-3, 7-5 on court four to close out the scoring for UTRGV as Sam Houston State won the other singles matches.
Scouting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 5-1 on the season last defeated Louisiana Lafayette 4-0 on the road. Their last match against Incarnate Word was postponed to a later date due to bad weather in the area.
Maria Maldonado lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a 6-0 record in singles while playing three matches at the No. 4 spot and three matches at the No. 5 spot. Judit Vives has posted a 4-1 record in singles this season while playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
In doubles, Louisa Trigona and Marina Vicens Miguel lead the team with a 3-1 record while no other doubles team has won more than one match this season.
South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union
UTRGV currently trails in the South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union by a score of 25-17.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi added four points for wins at Valley Classic Collegiate Meet in both men's and women's track and field.
The next event is currently taking place with the women's golf UTRGV Invitational at the McAllen Country Club.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 2-26 all-time against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a series that dates back to 2000.
Both of these teams met back on February 1 and it was Texas A&M-Corpus Christi that came away with the 6-1 win.
The last time UTRGV defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi came back on February 17, 2007 when they picked up the 4-3 win in Corpus Christi.

UTRGV currently has seven student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the United States of America, France, Macedonia, Mexico, Russia and Spain.

UTRGV be back in action on March 17 when they head to Las Cruces, New Mexico for the first WAC cluster of the season to face Chicago State.
