Men’s Tennis Closes Out Conference Play and Their Regular Season Sunday Against New Mexico State

SEATTLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team closes out Western Athletic Conference play on Sunday when they face New Mexico State University at 2 p.m. in their regular season finale.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV (5-19, 2-2 WAC) had their three match-winning streak snapped with a 0-7 loss to Grand Canyon University.
 
Grand Canyon swept through doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. They followed with six wins in singles to clinch the win.
 
Elliot Johnstone and Clement Sarradin took their matches to three sets but weren't able to pull out the win.
 
Scouting New Mexico State
New Mexico State is 13-5 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. They are currently on a six match win streak with wins against St. Mary's (CA), Nevada, Grand Canyon, Chicago State, Seattle and UMKC.
 
New Mexico State returns four from last year's WAC Championship team in Enrique Asmar, Mauri Benitez, Stijn de Haan and Christofer Goncalves.
 
They have recorded win over some tough competition that includes, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Louisiana Lafayette, UC Riverside, Weber State and Weber State.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 3-7 all-time against New Mexico State in a series that dates back to 1975.
 
Both of these teams faced off last season and it was New Mexico State that pulled out the 7-0 win in Las Cruces.
 
The last time UTRGV beat New Mexico State came back in 1994.

UTRGV be back in action when they compete in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on April 28.
