SEATTLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team closed out conference play and the regular season with a 0-7 loss to New Mexico State University on Sunday at the Amy Yee Tennis Center.
UTRGV (5-20, 2-3 WAC) got a doubles win on court three as the team of
Koby Jansen and Clément Sarradin defeated Enrique Asmar and Sergi Espias 6-4 but it was New Mexico State (14-5, 5-0 WAC) who took the doubles point with wins on court one and two.
Elliot Johnstone opened his match against Luis Flores on court two with a 6-1 win in the first set before falling in the second 2-6. In the tiebreaker, Johnstone and Flores went the distance in the third set with Johnstone falling 6-7.
New Mexico State went on to win the rest of the singles matches to finish the sweep.
UTRGV will be back in action on April 28 when they compete in the first round of the WAC Tournament in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
