Women's Tennis to Face No. 12 Texas Saturday

AUSTIN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team is set to face No. 12 University of Texas on Saturday at the new Texas Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV fell 0-7 to Texas A&M University to open the season last week.
 
Texas A&M opened play by taking the doubles point by winning two of the three courts. Junior Doris Aleksovksa and sophomore Anastasia Belyaeva were tied at five with Dorthea Faa-Hviding and Riley McQuaid before it went unfinished.
 
Texas A&M then swept through the singles matches to close out the match.
 
Scouting No. 12 Texas
Texas opens up their season on Saturday as they host Texas State prior to playing UTRGV.
 
It will be the first matches in the new Texas Tennis Center.
 
Texas returns seven from last year's squad that went 14-9, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Petra Granic returns for her sophomore season after posting a 24-9 overall record while going 17-4 in dual match play.
 
Bianca Turati also comes back for her sophomore season after a freshman campaign that saw her post a 17-8 overall record while going 11-7 in the dual match season. Her sister Anna Turati, who posted a 16-4 overall record with a 12-4 dual match record, also comes back for her sophomore season.
 
In doubles, Granic and Dani Wagland teamed up to lead Texas with a 7-6 doubles record last year. Overall, Texas went 38-39 in doubles as a team last season.
 
Anna Turati is coming off being named Big 12 Player of the Week after going 3-0 at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic.
 
Sunday Match Rescheduled
UTRGV's Sunday match against Sam Houston State has been rescheduled for February 18 at 12 p.m.
 
Forecasts predicted 80 percent chance of rain on Sunday in Huntsville, so both teams thought it would be best to push the match to a later date.
 
The All-Time Series
This is the first-ever meeting between the two schools. 
 
Globetrotters
UTRGV currently has eight student-athletes on the roster representing seven different countries, including the Macedonia, Mexico, Russia, Spain, India, Germany and Denmark.
 
Next Up
UTRGV will be back in action on January 27 as they kick off their home portion of the schedule when they host Prairie View A&M at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
