EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team looks to remain perfect at home as it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, on Tuesday 2 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV (5-5) picked up a 5-2 victory over Incarnate Word on Sunday to improve to 4-0 at home this season.
 
UTRGV won the doubles point for the third straight match after winning on courts one and two.
 
In singles, UTRGV got wins from Dominique Ibarra, Lasya Patnaik, Doris Aleksovska and Anastasia Belyaeva.
 
Ibarra improved to 7-1 on the season in singles and has won seven in a row.
 
South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union
UTRGV currently leads the showdown standings by a score of 18.5 to 14.5 points.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has won the last two events after coming off wins in men's tennis and baseball.
 
The next South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, will be women's golf as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hosts the Islander Classic February 26-27.
 
Scouting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 3-3 on the season after falling to Louisiana Lafayette 3-4 on February 22.
 
Its three wins have come against Prairie View A&M (2) and Texas A&M Kingsville.
 
Its three loss have come against Houston, SMU and Louisiana Lafayette.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 2-27 all-time against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a series that dates back to 2000.
 
Both of these teams met twice last season where the Islanders came away with both victories.
 
The last time UTRGV defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi came back on February 17, 2007 when it picked up the 4-3 win in Corpus Christi.

UTRGV currently has eight student-athletes on the roster representing seven different countries, including the Macedonia, Mexico, Russia, Spain, India, Germany and Denmark.
