Women’s Tennis Returns Home Sunday to Host New Mexico

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team returns home to host the University of New Mexico on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
It's the first of five straight home matches for UTRGV. Attendance is free and fans are encouraged to attend. Gates open at 9 a.m.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV (6-8) fell 0-4 to Rice University on Friday.
 
UTRGV fell on doubles courts three and one as Rice took the doubles point.
 
Rice then picked up wins on courts five, one and three to clinch the victory. All other courts went unfinished.
 
Scouting New Mexico
New Mexico is 3-5 on the season after defeating UTSA 4-2 on March 15.
 
New Mexico also has wins against Utah and Western Michigan. Its losses have come against Baylor, Northern Arizona, Abilene Christian, Colorado, and BYU.
 
New Mexico is coached by Stephanie Wooten-Quijada, who led UTRGV to its Western Athletic Conference Tournament title back and first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015.
 
The All-Time Series
This is the first meeting between the two teams.  
 
Globetrotters
UTRGV currently has eight student-athletes on the roster representing seven different countries, including the Macedonia, Mexico, Russia, Spain, India, Germany and Denmark.
 
Next Up
UTRGV will return to action on March 23 when it hosts the first WAC cluster of the season as it faces off against UMKC at 1 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
