EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team wrapped up the first Western Athletic Conference cluster with a 7-0 sweep over Seattle U on Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
UTRGV (10-8, 3-0 WAC) picked up its third conference victory and it improved to 9-0 at home this season. 
 
"I am just so proud of them," UTRGV head coach Sonia Hahn said. "It was a tough weekend with three matches in three days and they just competed so hard. It's not always who is the better team towards the end of the weekend, it's more about who is mentally tough. They did a fantastic job out there."
 
UTRGV got ahead in the match by taking the doubles point. Sophomore Anastasia Belyaeva and freshman Lasya Patnaik opened doubles with a 6-2 win over Kali McCollister and Lily-Ann Kreutzer on court three. 
 
Then, it was Senior Dominique Esparza and junior Doris Aleksovska with the 6-2 win over Hanna Gianan and Kyra Jung on court two that clinched the point for UTRGV.
 
In singles, Ibarra added to UTRGV's lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jung on court two before Patnaik made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Kreutzer on court six. 
 
Moments later, Belyaeva picked up the 6-0, 6-1 win over Kelli Woodman on court four to clinch the win for UTRGV. 
 
Esparza followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Michelle Lui on court one, which made it 5-0.
 
Marine Darzyan picked recorded the 6-3, 6-2 win over Gianan on court two and then it was Aleksovska closing out the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win over McCollister on court five.
 
UTRGV will be back in action on Friday, March 30, when it hosts Laredo Community College at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 1 p.m. in its final home match of the season.
