CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team is set for the final Western Athletic Conference cluster as it takes on Chicago State Friday at 10 a.m. at the CSU Tennis Courts.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (9-10, 0-2 WAC) closed out its home portion of its schedule with a 6-1 win over Laredo Community College, who is ranked fourth in the ITA junior college rankings.
It was the seventh home win of the season.
UTRGV got thing started by taking the doubles point by winning on courts two and three.
In singles, UTRGV won courts one, two, four, five and six to clinch the win.
Sophomore Dennis Boisseau, who played at the No. 1 spot, clinched the win for UTRGV with a win on court one over Juan Cruz Scoppetta.
Scouting Chicago State
Chicago State is 5-15 on the season and 0-2 in WAC play after falling to UMKC and New Mexico State.
Chicago State is on a four-match losing streak after falling to Illinois State 0-7. It will face UTRGV, Seattle U, and Grand Canyon in the final WAC cluster.
Chicago State is 42-73 as a team in singles with Christian Gonzalez leading the way with a 13-6 record in dual match singles.
In doubles, Chicago State is 22-36 with Gonzalez and teammate Felix Savard posting a 15-5 record.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 3-0 against Chicago State all-time in a series that dates back to 2015.
UTRGV picked up the 6-1 win over Chicago State in Seattle.
