AUSTIN– The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team became the first team this season to hold No. 14 University of Texas scoreless in the first half but fell 2-1 after a pair of second half goals on Friday at Mike A. Meyers Stadium and Soccer Field.
UTRGV (4-3-1) withstood nine shots from Texas (7-0-1), five of which came on goal. Junior
Kinga Szemik made five first half saves to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
Texas got the first goal of the match as
Haley Berggot set up in front of the net by
Cyera Hintzen and
Katie Glennat the 54:51 mark for her third goal of the season.
UTRGV answered back at the 71:51 mark as freshman
Shentatious Knoxgot her first goal of the season tying the match at 1-1. Knox got the pass from senior
Diandra Aliagafrom about eight yards out.
A few minutes later, Texas got the game-winner from Glenn at 73:53.
Szemik finished the match with eight saves on the night as UTRGV was out 17-7 and 10-2 on goal.
