SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's golf team fell 2-3 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a match play event on Friday at Brackenridge Park Golf Course.
"It was a well fought match and it came down to the wire but we fell a little short," UTRGV head coach
Bryan Novoa said. "The girls played very hard and it was a one or two swing difference in a couple of matches. That was the difference at the end."
The first match featured senior
Emma Mesta facing Brooklyn Sutton where Mesta was up one through 11 holes but it was Sutton who came away with the 2 up victory giving Corpus Christi the first point.
Junior
Vicky Gonzalez tied things up with a win over Alex Amos. Gonzalez was up three through 11 holes and held that lead to finish off her match up three with two to play.
Corpus Christi came away with the next two points to clinch the win as senior
Michelle Moroles fell 3 and 2 to Autumn Bynum and sophomore
Briana Garza fell 4 and 2 to Dani Bergmann.
Junior
Tilda Green closed out the match with a win over Kellsey Sample. Green was up four with three to play closing out the match.
UTRGV will be back in action on October 1 when it tees it up at the Bearkat Invitational.
