Women's Golf Cards Top Five Round in Program History on Day One of Diamante Intercollegiate

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team is in a tie for ninth after the first day of the Diamante Intercollegiate Sunday at Diamante Country Club.

UTRGV finished the day with a one-over 289 after the opening round, which is tied for the fifth-lowest team round in program history. Sam Houston (273), Central Arkansas (281), Arkansas State (285), Little Rock (285), and California Baptist (287) round out the top five.

The Vaqueros also lead all Southland Conference (SLC) institutions in the tournament which includes Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (295), HCU (295), East Texas A&M (303), and Stephen F. Austin (319).

Freshman Kanyanat Kamphoo and senior Natalia Rodriguez were the only Vaqueros to shoot under-par, both carding a one-under 71 in the first round. Kamphoo ended the round with two birdies across the final four holes.

Kamphoo and Rodriguez are among the top four SLC golfers in the field. as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Samantha Gibbs and Salysa Mason also finished in a tie for 16th.

Junior Zoe Hobbs ended her one-over 73 round with 10 straight holes of bogey-free golf, which included birdies on holes 11 and 14, to finish in a tie for 41st.

After shooting two-over on the front nine, freshman Avery Glanzer posted an even-par 36 on the back nine en route to a tie for 59th and first round score of 74.

Junior Miriam Barcalova rounded out the day for the Vaqueros posting a three-over 75 after the first day and finishing in a tie for 71st.

The Vaqueros will compete in the second round of the Diamante Intercollegiate Monday. Fans can follow along through live scoring.
