EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team is set for its first home match of the season when it plays host to Laredo Community College on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend.
Living on the Road
- UTRGV is 2-10 on the season.

Looking at the Glass Half Full
- Despite just two wins through the season, UTRGV still playing with confidence.
- Four of the last five matches have been with either a score of 4-2 or 4-3.
- Fell to Lamar 3-4, fell to Southern Miss 3-4, fell to DePaul 2-4, and fell to New Mexico State 3-4.
- Head Coach Dann Nelson has seen good things throughout the first half of the season and knows it will be the little things that will help turn the tide.
"We are still playing with confidence," UTRGV head coach
Dann Nelson said. "We are fighting for every point. It's about getting over that hump and finishing matches after you've won the first set or when you are serving for the match. These are the things we need to improve on."
The Friendly Confines of Orville Cox Tennis Center
- Four of the next six matches will be at home.
- Home matches means less travel and less wear and tear on the body.
- After facing Laredo Community College, UTRGV will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Nicholls State, and Alcorn State.
- UTRGV went 7-2 at home last year.
"It's paramount for use and we need that," Nelson said. "I am looking forward to that. We all are right now. We play well at home so as many matches we can get at home we will definitely take them."
