EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the University of Texas in its second spring match on Saturday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
Freshman
Emily Zapata scored the goal from UTRGV as she looks to build off of her stellar freshman season.
Defensively, UTRGV had a strong showing after allowing those two goals to Texas. Sophomore
Matilyn Hepker played a solid game at center back and UTRGV Head Coach
Glad Bugariu liked what he saw in the second half.
"Unfortunately, we started sloppy against the quality players of that Texas has and we got punished early for two early mistakes," Bugariu said. "The second half was much better in terms of organization and overall performance. We created a number of solid chances but ultimately, Texas was the deserved winner. We showed a number of positives throughout the game."
UTRGV will be back in action on March 30 when UTSA comes to the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
