AZUSA, Calif. – Redshirt senior and Los Fresnos alum
Jennifer Zapata broke the program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's and women's track and field team on Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Zapata crossed the finish line with a time of 10:47.03 to finish in 28
thplace. She broke her own record of 10:49.23 that she set at the Texas Relays in March.
Freshman
Dorcas Koech also etched her name in the record books as she finished the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:09.71, which is the second fastest time in program history. She finished in second place in the sixth heat out of 35 runners.
Senior
Omer Almog came in ninth place out of 24 runners in the fourth heat of the men's 5,000-meter run after crossing the finish line with a time of 14:32.66, which is the fourth fastest in program history.
UTRGV will wrap up competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday while others will compete at the 16
thAnnual J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight Meet in Houston.
