EDINBURG – In its first action against a live opponent, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) defeated the University of the Incarnate Word 1-0 on Saturday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The teams played three 30-minute periods and through the first two periods remained scoreless until freshman
Maya Chitmanscored in the 60
thminute. After picking up the loose ball, Chitman and from the top of the box put in the top right corner of the net.
"Our ball retention was quite good. We kept the ball well and we had good circulation," UTRGV head coach
Glad Bugariu said. "Over all it was good in those regards. Our build of play was solid I don't think we create much chances so it's something that we need to improve on."

UTRGV will have another exhibition match on Monday when they travel to face the University of Houston-Victoria.
