VICTORIA – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team closed out its exhibition matches with a 9-0 victory over the University of Houston-Victoria on Monday at The Cage.
Freshman
Maya Chitman, who got the lone goal in the win over Incarnate Word, got the scoring started with a goal in the seventh minute.
Sophomore
Shentatious Knox followed with a goal of her own in the 11
thminute before sophomore
Isabella Marinaro scored in the 16
thminute and then added another in the 21
stminute to make it 4-0 UTRGV.
Two minutes later, Knox closed out the scoring in the half with another goal as UTRGV took the 5-0 lead.
In the second half, freshman
Marcy Garza got in the on the fun as she scored a goal in the 53
rdminute.
Marinaro had herself a match as she added two more goals in the 60
thand 65
thminute to make it 8-0.
Sophomore
Elina Seppälä closed out the scoring in the 73
rdminute with another goal.
UTRGV will open the regular season on Thursday when it hosts the University of Miami, as part of the UTRGV Tournament, at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Admission is free.
