RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team opened its spring season with a 2-1 victory over St. Kitts and Nevis National Team in an exhibition match on Friday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
 
It was the first test for the Vaqueros, who opened the spring semester with practice back on January 15.
 
Junior Gina Steinergot both goals for the Vaqueros as she scored in the 25^thminute before adding another goal in the 57^thminute. 
 
St. Kitts and Nevis scored their goal in the 80^thminute as they amped up the pressure in the tail end of the friendly. 
 
The Vaqueros defense limited the St. Kitts and Nevis' opportunities throughout the match as Kinga Szemik made a couple of saves on the night. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action February 1 when it hosts Monterrey Tech at 2 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
