NACOGDOCHES – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team closed out its weekend with a 1-6 loss to Stephen F. Austin University on Saturday at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
 
The Vaqueros (0-3) got their first doubles victory of the season as the duo of junior Alicia Thal and freshman Kristyna Mamicova defeated Armelle Cerdan and Alisha Moldakhmetova 6-2 at No. 3 doubles but it was Stephen F. Austin who came away with the 1-0 lead after picking up wins on the other two doubles courts.
 
In singles, sophomore Katarina Sasaroga picked up her first victory of the season with a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Darinka Tiboldi at the No. 2 spot.
 
Sophomore Ana Platisa took her match against Moldakhmetova to three sets at the No. 4 spot. Platisa opened with a 7-5 victory in the first before falling 4-6 in the second. Platisa battled in the tiebreaker as she fell 7-10. 
 
Stephen F. Austin clinched the win with victories at the other four singles matches. 
 
UTRGV will be back in action on January 29 when it travels to Corpus Christi to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, at 3 p.m.
