CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team is set to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, at 3 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out

• UTRGV fell 1-6 to Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches.
• UTRGV picked up its first point of the season as Katarina Sasaroga defeated Darinka Tiboldi at the No. 2 singles spot.
• The doubles team of Alicia Thal and Kristyna Mamicova also recorded the team's first doubles victory of the season by defeating Armelle Cerdan and Alisha Moldakhmetova 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. 
• It was the third straight road match to start off the season.

 
All-Time Series Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

• UTRGV is 3-30 all-time against Corpus Christi in a series that dates back to 2000.
• Corpus Christi won the last match up 4-2 back on March 13, 2019 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. 
• The last time UTRGV defeated Corpus Christi came on February 27, 2018 when it won 4-3 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center snapping a 14-match losing streak to Corpus Christi.
• The other two wins for UTRGV came on February 17, 2007 (4-3) and on February 3, 2007 (4-2).
• Last five matches vs. Corpus Christi: L 2-4 (Mar. 13, 2019), L 2-5 (Feb. 4, 2019), L 2-5 (Mar. 3, 2018), W 4-3 (Feb. 27, 2018), L 2-5 (Mar. 7, 2017).

 
Scouting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

• Corpus Christi is 4-0 on the season.
• Has defeated Prairie View A&M, twice, and Trinity, twice.
• Corpus Christi returns five from last year's squad, including Mariya Shumeika and Camille Townsend who led the team with 15 victories each last year.
• This season, Emma Honore leads the team with four singles victories while the team has not lost a match in both singles (19-0) and doubles (8-0).

 
Showdown Standings

• UTRGV trails in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, standings 14-19.
• After the men's and women's tennis matchups in Corpus Christi, the next showdown event will be the men's tennis match at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Feb. 5.
• UTRGV has dropped the last four events in the showdown after winning four of the first six events.
