HELOTES – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team opened the season with a 7-0 sweep of Our Lady of the Lake Saints on Friday at Northside Tennis Center. 
 
UTRGV (1-0) opened with the quick advantage as it swept through doubles. The duo of redshirt freshman Luka Jankovic and redshirt junior Zane Kohrs defeated Caio Ravagnani and Murilo Salviato6-0 on court one. 
 
Redshirt junior Carlo Izurietaand redshirt senior Mateo Schmit followed with a 6-1 win over Artur Ezberger and Vinicius Silva on court two to clinch the point for the Vaqueros. Redshirt sophomore Te Kani Williams and Alberto Mello closed out doubles with a 6-4 win over Michael Canales and Rosendo Ceballos on court three. 
 
In singles, Jankovic kept things rolling with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Ravagnani on court two. Kohrs added to UTRGV's lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Salviato on court three and then it was Schmit who clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Canales on court three. 
 
Williams then made it 5-0 in favor of the Vaqueros with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Silva. Mello added a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sebastian Rodriguez on court six before Izurieta closed out singles play with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Etzberger on court one. 
 
UTRGV will be back in action at 1 p.m. against Howard Payne University in a neutral site match at Northside Tennis Center.
