RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Thursday a series of modifications to home games involving baseball, men's basketball and women's soccer due to the ongoing effects of Winter Storm Uri.
 
The three baseball games against Lamar, two women's soccer matches against Seattle U and men's basketball game against Dallas Christian will be played with attendance limited only to families of the student-athletes and coaches. Concession stands will not be open as UTRGV Athletics does not want to try resupplying the concessions stands during a time at which members of the community are trying to fill their own pantries.
 
Due to the threat of inclement weather on Friday, the baseball series against Lamar will now start on Saturday with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. Should the second game not be complete by the time it is necessary to turn on the stadium lights, the game will be suspended and completed prior to Sunday's scheduled 12 p.m. game. UTRGV Athletics is committed to not turning on the lights at either UTRGV Baseball Stadium or the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex due to the need to conserve energy across the State of Texas.
 
The women's soccer matches against Seattle U remain scheduled for Saturday and Monday at 11 a.m. while the men's basketball game against Dallas Christian remains scheduled for Sunday at 5 p.m.
 
All games will be broadcast for free at WACDigitalNetwork.com.
 
At the end of the season, UTRGV basketball and baseball season ticket holders will have the option to either donate the balance paid for games played without fans that are not replaced to the V Club, receive a credit that is good for 2021-22 basketball and baseball season tickets, or receive a refund.
