CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team returns to action to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Showdown Standings
The Vaqueros and Islanders are tied in the showdown standings with 16.5 points each after a scoreless draw in women's soccer gave both sides 1.5 points.
After the women's tennis match, the next event in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, will be a men's tennis match on March 10 at 2 p.m. in Corpus Christi.
Cha-cha-changes
UTRGV saw its last two matches against Sam Houston and Houston canceled due to Winter Storm Uri.
The matches are not currently set to be made up but could if the teams have openings later in the season.
Last Time Out
UTRGV last played on Feb. 9 against Corpus Christi as it fell 1-6 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Freshman
Isabelle Bahr gave UTRGV its lone point of the match as she picked up the win at the No. 1 singles spot. Bahr defeated Camille Townsend 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Corpus Christi swept through doubles and won the other five singles matches to clinch the win.
Facing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
- Corpus Christi is 9-1 on the season.
- Corpus Christi hasn't played a match since defeating UTRGV 6-1 on Feb. 9.
- Corpus Christi has four wins against Prairie View A&M, two against Trinity, one against UTSA, one against Texas A&M-Kingsville, and one against UTRGV.
- Corpus Christi is 46-5 in singles play while posting a 23-3 doubles record.
- UTRGV is 3-33 all-time against Corpus Christi in a series that dates back to 2000.
- UTRGV last beat Corpus Christi back on Feb. 27, 2018 when it won 4-3 at home.
