UTRGV Game Notes
SEATTLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball game against the University of Washington Huskies was suspended due to rain with the Huskies leading 6-3 and two outs in the top of the fifth on Friday at Husky Ballpark.
The game will be completed on Saturday at 3 p.m. followed by the regularly scheduled game.
The Vaqueros trailed 6-0 entering the fifth. Sophomore
Diego Ramirez led off with a single. One out later, graduate student
Christian Sepulveda doubled down the line to get the Vaqueros on the board. Then, with two outs, freshman
Spencer Serven tripled to right-center to bring in Sepulveda. Junior Vela alum
RJ Ochoa followed with an RBI-double as lightning flashed through the sky to make the score 6-3. That is when the game was suspended.
The Huskies jumped on the board in the first on RBI-singles by
Noah Hsue and
Michael Brown.
A
Braiden Ward single made the score 3-0 in the second.
The Huskies pushed across three more runs in the third on a Brown single, an error and a
Christian Jones single.
Graduate student
Ricky Arevalo is the current pitcher for the Vaqueros, having pitched a scoreless inning, striking out one while allowing two hits and inducing a double play.
David Rhodes is the current pitcher for the Huskies, having given up three runs on four hits while striking out three in 1.2 innings.
